The University of Minho, through the Textile Engineering Department, was pioneer in Portugal offering a master study program in Design and Marketing, in the areas of Textile Design and Clothing, with more than 20 years of experience in research in this scientific area. In addition to the Master in Design and Marketing, the Textile Engineering Department, is currently responsible for a degree in Fashion Design and Marketing and a Master's degree in Fashion Communication Design. The research activities of the Department are carried out within the Centre for Textile Science & Technology (2C2T), a Center which in the last evaluations, has consecutively earned the classification of Excellent Research Center.

The Centro Superior de Diseño de Moda de Madrid, (CSDMM-UPM), center linked to the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, teaches fashion design for more than thirty years. As a result of its commitment to quality and constant adaptation of the training courses, CSDMM-UPM offers since 2014 an official title of university graduation in fashion design, which evidences tyhe beginning of a new stage, marked by the need to integrate fashion in the academic structure of the university. Since this milestone, a scientific magazine (Diseño de Moda: Teoría e historia de la indumentaria), a consolidated research group and a doctoral program at the Polytechnic University of Madrid have been created, all promoted by CSDMM-UPM and pioneering research in design at the highest level. Simultaneously, CSDMM-UPM advocates internationalization, as shown by Paco Rabanne patronizing the first class of the fashion design graduation. For all these reasons, Centro Superior de Diseño de Moda de Madrid was awarded the 2016 National Fashion Prize by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism of the Spanish government, in the category of "Academia and Culture".
