The State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC), through the Center for Arts, Design and Fashion (CEART), is a leading public institution in Brazil in the areas of arts, design and fashion. Located in Florianópolis, CEART develops teaching, research and extension activities aimed at knowledge production, aesthetic experimentation and the critical training of professionals and researchers in the field of creative industries. The center brings together undergraduate courses and graduate programs that articulate artistic practices, theoretical reflection and interdisciplinary research. In the field of fashion and design, it stands out for promoting studies that address material culture, creative processes, sustainability, innovation and communication, establishing a constant dialogue with the contemporary contexts of cultural production and the creative economy.
CEART maintains collaborative networks with universities, research centers and cultural institutions in Brazil and abroad, encouraging academic mobility, the realization of joint projects and the international circulation of researchers and students. Through these initiatives, the center consolidates its role as a space for the production and dissemination of knowledge committed to cultural, artistic and scientific development on a global scale.
ABEPEM - the Brazilian Association for Studies and Research in Fashion, founded on September 16, 2009, is responsible for the main academic and scientific events in the field of fashion in Brazil. It promotes studies and research through events, congresses, seminars, and academic or institutional partnerships. It is responsible for organizing the following events: Fashion Colloquium (Colóquio de Moda), Fashion Schools Forum, Seminar on Studies and Research in Consumption, and Costume Design Seminar.
The Fashion Colloquium (Colóquio de Moda) is the largest scientific and academic congress in the field of fashion in Brazil, with an impact throughout Latin America. It serves as a space for academic exchange between researchers, professors, and students from various undergraduate and graduate programs in the field, as well as professionals from related areas. Valuing cultural diversity, it brings together not only professionals from Fashion and Design, but also from History, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, Administration, Marketing, Advertising, Journalism, and Visual Arts. This hybridity of areas and spatial mobility promotes reflection, questioning, integration, and relationships between the diverse approaches to Fashion.
The University of Minho, through the Textile Engineering Department, was pioneer in Portugal offering a master study program in Design and Marketing, in the areas of Textile Design and Clothing, with more than 30 years of experience in research in this scientific area. In addition to the Master in Design and Innovation of Textile Products and Accessories, the Textile Engineering Department, is currently responsible for a degree in Fashion Design and Marketing and a Master's degree in Fashion Communication Design and a PhD in Fashion Design. The research activities of the Department are carried out within the Centre for Textile Science & Technology (2C2T), a Research Center of Excellency.
